Hi!
I’m Ella Maughan. A mom, scientist, and communicator. I have a PhD in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis (big words for “Bad Bugs”) and more than ten years of experience in medical communications and scientific consulting.
The idea for Bad Bug Busters first sparked in me five years ago while (literally) running my then six-month-old daughter to the pediatrician for her well visit and (needlessly) explaining how vaccines work and why the temporary pain of the shot would be worthwhile. Fast forward five years, another baby, two career pivots, and a couple of children’s book writing courses and workshops later, and Bad Bug Busters was finally born!
By combining storytelling with a deeper scientific truth, I hope to educate and motivate children to overcome their fear of shots and to help parents, caregivers, teachers, and healthcare providers navigate the complex conversations around how vaccines work.
I live on Long Island, NY, with my husband, two young daughters who love to do “experiments,” and our cat, Pickle.
